Artist Statement
My drawings, paintings, and prints seek to uncover the hidden beauty in the natural world, reconnect us to scenes we may pass every day, and prompt us to ponder and live attentively in the natural world we inhabit. Through utilizing very physical mediums and processes, my drawings, paintings, and prints echo the variability and unexpected nature of plants and animals. Moreover, I cultivate a deep attentiveness to the beauty of Florida plants and birds around me that are hidden and often viewed as mundane in an image-saturated world. Through utilizing observational drawing and painting, and printmaking methods like linocuts and woodcuts, I illuminate the beauty of the natural world and emphasize our integral role in valuing the ordinary moments in nature. These moments keep me curious and eager to keep investigating the relationship between nature and our responsibility to care for the small things around us.
